LOVELY WIFE are a sludgey noise rock and/or doom duo from Whitley Bay/Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK, centred around vocals and bass and featuring a revolving cast of drummers and additional miscreants. Performing entirely improvised material that slides easily from depth charge doom, to noise rock madness, with influences ranging from Eagle Twin, The Melvins, and Iron Monkey through to Lightning Bolt, Fossils and The Butthole Surfers.

Predominately a live entity, they have released via Inverted Grim-Mill Recordings (Live and Contrived) and Cruel Nature Records (Problem Rock, Audible Beef) and Panurus Productions (Split with Snakes Don't Belong in Alaska).

For Best In Show the band have enlisted the talents of Rob Woodcock (Fret!, Marzuraan, Tide Of Iron et al) and stripped back from the previous two releases to a trio as well as trimming the lengthy long form jams into (mostly) more compact bass heavy slabs. Ranging from the lurch of ’Ioniser’ to the short sharp shock of ‘Shenanigans’. The release is very much representative of the current live set up and also makes use of bugle (Watts) and a contact mic'd exercise ball (Garrick) that have featured prominently in recent shows.

"The good thing about this band is that you can hear that they don’t give a fuck about genres, they just do their thing and they own it, the music they make (which ‘Shan Patter’ is a good example of) is so eerie, dark and extremely heavy. Vocals that rumble and mumble from the pits of hell, the bass so heavy makes this music almost ritualistic." (Fuzzy Sun, fuzzy-sun.com/2020/05/27/exclusive-track-premiere-shan-patter-by-lovely-wife/)

"a unique weirdo blend of improvised doom with a drunken psychedelic vibe which is anywhere between THRONES to The Melvins to a very pissed off Butthole Surfers." (Cosmic Carnage www.cosmiccarnagegigs.co.uk/news/params/post/2167141/exclusive-album-stream-best-in-show-by-lovely-wife-on-cruel-nature-record)

"properly heavy, and at the same time, way jazzy without sucking" (Aural Aggravation auralaggravation.com/2020/07/01/lovely-wife-best-in-show/)

"this is a damned fine sludge/doom/drone record, and inarguably one of Lovely Wife’s best" (Echoes and Dust - www.echoesanddust.com/2020/07/lovely-wife-best-in-show/?fbclid=IwAR22Y0NaiWFmvwrShW7YSW1mt0y_acNDmFE1RHbq9cuD6VIqTVNuxXYmvKQ)
