Following his first album 'Debutante', which was praised as "melancholic, cinematic ambience somewhere between Sixteen Candles and Twin Peaks“ (Electronic Sound Magazine), Peter Lersch (Todeskino) returns with this latest release for Cruel Nature.
Here, Todeskino reaches out to the cute, bleepy and playful excursions of 90‘s electronica. A potent mix of ambient and electropop orchestrated by sugarcoated chords, bursting bass lines and squelching synth leads - each track creates a musical microcosm of highly unusual sounds. Spiked with Todeskino‘s typical ingredients of cinematic melancholy, listeners will be carried away into a mellow, colourful world.
"Last year, Düsseldorf's Peter Lersch released 'Debutante', an album that was characterised by a dream-like unreality. For his follow-up, Lersch taps into the same illusory sensibility, but frames it in a vital, rhythmic effervescence, giving tracks like 'Bitorchestra' and 'Burnt Toast Mountain Chain' an outwardly euphoric energy.
However, if you isolate the sounds beneath his crisp electronic pop beats and beatific passages, you're left with uncontrollable pulses and a swirling, churning discordance. It's a compositional sleight of hand that gives the six pieces here a depth of perspective, where intricate details - countermelodies, unplaceable sounds and hazy, faraway textures - continually reveal themselves.
The highlight here is 'Versatiles', the most diminutive of all the tracks, which covers an incredible emotional distance in just under three minutes. Intertwining melodies and a constantly evolving electro rhythm fade away sharply to reveal a restless, decidedly uncertain core, making you question everything you thought you heard moments before. MMMarvellous"

"“MMMiniatures” consists of six tracks that conjure up the 90s electronica, where minimalistic synthesizer sounds and warm atmospheres unfurl, along with soft rhythmic pulsations and sweetened melodies. The music reminds me of the artists belonging to the American Audio Dregs imprint, such as Lullatone, Inkblot, or the Berlin based Morr Music label with ISAN, Manual.
"Bitorchestra" It has a synth wave-esque feel to it, while “Burnt Toast Mountain Chain” has a strong electropop twang. “Pink Chewing Gum” slowly develops the melancholic synth notes, while “Versatiles” shows off its uplifting melodies. “Blue Moon Red Alcove” moves leisurely into wave ambient bashes whereas “Porcelain Tiger” with its synth lines closes a cozy and harmonious album with a blissful enveloping backdrop."
