Brandishing a single LA Galaxy-branded drum stick and yet more unearned bravado, TENCHPRESS presents a vital new sonic totality: TOMBMAGIC. Cleaner, more neutered, more desiccated than anything that came before, the ternate album from Avon-via-Leeds’s worst finds a sonic inventory in the airless plunk of an open snare drum, the sandblasted purity of foley percussion, the test tube sterility of free soft synths, and the empty digi-gurgle of treated vocals.

TOMBMAGIC hews cultural capital out of horse’s skin conditions, pure mathematics, sickly dynasties, and all the weird disquiet of being at odds with your own body. Listen out for discussions of distended muscles, masticating gums, quazzle, and the creamy porcelain of retina jelly. Once again, Hawthorne’s finest sons act as guiding lights, lodestars, fulcrums.

I saw Haress support Godspeed in Coventry over the weekend and haven't been able to stop myself thinking about their set. It doesn't surprise me that they turn out to be from Bishop's Castle because this is what the welsh border sounds like. Uncanny, unsettling, beautiful. Wonderful discovery, SteveC
