“Dragged Up rules! This is awesome.. this is just what I need to hear" John Dieterich - Deerhoof

“Following a path that began with the lo-fi art-punk of 2020’s debut D/U, High On Ripple sees the band build on the momentum of last years cult smash follow up Hex Domestic EP in epic, sprawling style.

From the heady tension and release of opener Bible Study through to Third Level’s breathtaking psychedelic explosion, there is a kaleidoscopic, all-consuming energy at play that renders any talk of genre or reference points fantastically obsolete.

Whilst tracks like Missing Person and Young Person’s Guide To Going Backwards In The World prove the group’s propensity for an ear-worm hook, they are always but a heartbeat away from unexpected, uncharted territory. It’s an anything goes ethos that is relentlessly captivating.

As ever, Dragged Up have boldly followed their creative instincts, free of expectation or outside influence. Songs within songs, moments within moments, forever on the brink of their next minor sonic miracle.”

"no matter how many times you listen, you are still unsure of what turns will be taken, meaning that each experiemce, so far at least, has offered something new. There’s influences far and wide on show, from the streets of New York, Patti Smith, to The Slits and the Raincoats."

"High on Ripple connects the lofi garage sound that can also be heard on previous releases, which is reminiscent of the flair of sleazy low budget films of the early 60s, with rich, against-the-grain punk, classic doom metal influences and recited poetry to a dense brew’"

"the varied elements brought by each member results in something unique, refreshing and thrilling. I've been blown away by this. High On Ripple proves Dragged Up are really one of the more exciting groups around. Great stuff."

“Dragged Up aren’t some ramshackle tuneless DIY weekend hobby affair with limited appeal. Instead, [High On Ripple] demonstrates an intelligence and clarity of vision of a band twice their lifespan.”

“we love Dragged Up, and High On Ripple may infatuate you, too.”

"I like Dragged Up, for the record I bought this. It’s an oddly endearing listen, flicking suddenly from gentle strumming and singing to grungy distortion drenched riffs, then back again. It slides into dubby echoes then distorts, there’s sadness in tiny sounds and then left field happiness. Some of it is solid sounding indie pop, some bass led post punk, some strange guitar music, all with the lazy sounding vocals which just work. But in all the strangeness, the laid back grooves, the post post everything feeling of it, this is a great record. Did I mention I have bought it?"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hailing from Glasgow, Dragged Up are an off-kilter psych-garage proto-grunge band with a spoken word element, founded in late 2018 by Eva Gnatiuk (Violent Butlins, Escape from GLA) with Simon Shaw (Youth of America, Trembling Bells) and writer Lisa Jones. Chas Lalli (Bad Aura, Vom) and Stephen Mors (The Owsley Sunshine) joined in 2019 and 2022 respectively.

Hot on the heels of the 'Hex Domestic EP' (2023) and recent single 'Missing Person', Dragged Up present their second album, 'High On Ripple'.

Drawing its title from the teenage trash-talk of Martin Scorsese’s 1974 movie 'Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore', 'High On Ripple' sees Dragged Up expanding on the lo-fi garage scuzz of their debut album 'D/U' (2020) with Sabbath-esque doom (Professor Boo Boo), ethereal spoken word (Die Tryin’) and deconstructed glam-punk (Young Person’s Guide). The album’s cover painting and linocut, created by Eva and inspired by the work of Japanese woodcut artists such as Hiroshige II, works in tandem with closing track 'Third Level' which juxtaposes mythological imagery against Western culture’s disharmony with nature.

"Wonderful second tape by this Glaswegian quintet … their sound continues to explore echoes of the Anorak/ C86 scene, mixing slacker girl group vibes with garage pop essentials … Dragged Up are experts at the form."
- Byron Coley on the Hex Domestic EP, The Wire magazine (issue 479 + 480)
www.thewire.co.uk/issues/479/480

"D/U is a throwback to Beavis and Butthead era-MTV - an all-seeing, culture-cannibalizing slacker classic, collapsing the distinction between high and low art like a toddler-Tchaikovsky twatting a xylophone” - Record Collector Mag review of D/U mini-album

“It feels like proper old-school DIY punk. … combining gorgeous guitar instrumentals with beat poetry while maintaining a grungy edge … a stunning conclusion to a solid EP, proof that Dragged Up aren’t just another throwaway punk band.” - Christopher Sneddon on the Hex Domestic EP, Snack Magazine
